My friend brought these to the park months ago and my whole family loves them. She got the recipe from allrecipes here but she made the following adjustments. There are a lot of different ways you can alter this if you read the original recipe online (like adding different fruits, etc). This is hers:
2 cups oats
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup wheat germ (can sub with wheat flour)
3/4 cup whole wheat flour (I've used ap flour)
3/4 cup raisins
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup honey
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup canola oil
2 tsp vanilla extract
1. Preheat the oven to 350. Generously grease 9x13 baking pan with shortening.
2. In large bowl, mix together dry ingredients. Pour in wet ingredients. Mix well with wooden spoon. Pat mixture evenly into prepared pan.
3. Bake for 25-30 min(until bars begin to turn golden at the edges). Cool for 5 minutes, then cut into bars and remove from pan while still warm (if you wait too long they will be too hard to cut).
Note: I usually double the batch and bake in a heavy-duty jelly roll pan. They seem to taste better from the metal pan. These store well in a gallon size bag or rubbermiad-type container. Tasty healty treat that uses food storage items!
